Fortifications on Otago Peninsula dating from the late 1800's. In the 1880's fears grew as Russia created a deep water port in Vladivostok. Numerous bunkers and canon where positioned near Taiaroa Head.

Long Beach is a small settlement north of Dunedin. it is known for its beach, and caves on the north of the beach.

Karitane is a small settlement north of Dunedin. It was the former location of an undefended Māori village, the Huriawa Pā, and later a whaling station.

Cherry Farm (now known as Hawksbury) is the site of the former Cherry Farm Hospital, a psychiatric hospital that opened in 1952. It replaced the Seacliff Lunatic Asylum until it was closed in 1992 being replaced by a mix of community housing and Wakari Hospital.
